Monty Belsham’s dream of driving Route 66 began more than two decades ago. But it wasn’t until he bought a vintage 1953 Hudson Hornet that the dream finally found its wheels—and an adventure became something much more meaningful than simply traveling an iconic highway.
Brian Macy and his good friend Monty rallied a group of fellow classic-car enthusiasts around an ambitious idea: celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 the best way they knew how—behind the wheel. Together, they’ll take 14 vintage cars across 2,400 miles and eight states, while raising awareness and funds for a cause deeply personal to Monty: Parkinson’s disease, which his father lives with.
And while Monty’s 80-year-old dad will be following the adventure from his home in Penticton, British Columbia, in many ways he’ll be right there for every mile.
And he won’t be alone. Several of the friends making this journey have their own deeply personal connections to Parkinson’s—family members and friends they’ve loved, supported and, in some cases, lost to the disease.
So, tucked among the maps, memories and miles are the stories of people who matter to them—and a shared hope that this journey can help make the road ahead a little better for those living with Parkinson’s today.
