About George Ackerman

Dr. George Ackerman (Sharon’s son) is from Brooklyn, N.Y. Now residing in Florida, he works in the fields of law, police, and education. George lost his mother, Sharon Riff Ackerman on 1/1/2020 due to Parkinson’s Disease.

George wanted to honor his mother and continue to help in the Parkinson’s awareness cause and did not know how to bring change. We started TogetherForSharon® as a family for the purpose of keeping my mother, Sharon Riff Ackerman’s, memory alive and to share the message of Parkinson’s Awareness and hope for a cure.

Today togetherforsharon.com reaches thousands of individuals across the country for PD Awareness. George currently interviews individuals throughout the Parkinson’s community including various foundations, caregivers, and Parkinson’s warriors to help share their stories and causes.

World Parkinson Congress 2026 in Arizona was more than a conference for me — it was a reminder of the strength, resilience, and incredible positivity that lives within the Parkinson’s community, and the YOPD (Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease) community.

Throughout the week I met people from all over the world come together with one shared goal: hope, awareness, education, advocacy, and ultimately a cure. The positivity inside every hallway conversation, every session, every embrace, and every shared story was something words truly cannot fully describe.

What stood out most was seeing so many individuals living with Parkinson’s continue to inspire others despite the daily challenges they face. The courage within the YOPD community is powerful. So many continue to work, raise families, advocate, travel, educate, and support others while navigating their own Parkinson’s journey. That kind of determination changes lives and gives hope to so many who may feel alone.

For me personally, WPC2026 carried deep meaning. Everything I do through TogetherForSharon® is in memory of my mother, Sharon, whose battle with Parkinson’s continues to inspire my advocacy every single day. Being able to stand beside this worldwide community reminded me why I continue pushing awareness forward — because every story matters, every voice matters, and every person deserves hope.

I left Arizona with more than memories. I left with renewed purpose, lifelong friendships, inspiration, and gratitude for this global Parkinson’s family that continues to support one another through every step of the journey.

The positivity at WPC2026 was contagious. It reminded me that even during difficult moments, there is still laughter, love, compassion, progress, and hope. Together, this community proves that we are stronger united than we could ever be alone.

Forever grateful for every person who shared a moment, conversation, hug, photo, story, or encouragement during this unforgettable experience. You keep me going and I will cherish these memories for a lifetime.
