I was diagnosed with YOPD 6 years ago. In 2020 at age 45.
Something I have learned about myself is that I live better when I separate MYSELF from the DISEASE.
I talk to my Parkinson’s like it is the unwelcome squatter I picture it to be. I tell it to stop. To leave. To relent. Sometimes it even listens.
Making Parkinson’s the focus of my life allows it into my world and I begin to see things through a different lens. That lens does not allow me to live life the way I want.
We sacrifice so many beloved moments and experiences to this disease. Sometimes ones we never expected. Like the taste and texture of our favorite meal. A walk alone when we’re always being looked after.
Asking for things and needing help often makes us feel burdensome.
But that is what the lens sees. Not the truth. The meaning we create from what happened to us. What we are forced to endure and persevere through to make it to tomorrow- and start again.
What we see and what is true are not always the same things. If the view no longer serves you, and there is not enough light then we must let the light in and change the lens.
Therein, leads the path to a better perspective. Give yourself the gift of grace. Acknowledging that not everything goes right, nor can it. The universe is simply not built this way.
It is in our efforts and belief that we must continue to try to do better that we learn that even when we fail- we still CAN. It doesn’t have to be perfect. We simply need to try.
Manifest your own path to the light. Tell yourself every day that you CAN. That you ARE enough. That you DESERVE better.
It only takes one person to believe in you and change your view of your experience for the better.
Don’t wait for others to catch up to your awakening. Be that person for yourself. The rest will come.
Do it every day. Do it loud and proud and make sure you listen to yourself. Others will listen too.
Lets give it a head start and finish every conversation about personal ability with “I believe in you.”
I believe in you!
You bet your sweet 🍑 bottom I do!
I believe in you and I am so proud of you.
Keep showing up- you matter.
Love youuuuu!
XOXO
